We can't quite believe we're writing this, but the Controller of Radio 2 Lesley Douglas has just announced that she is quitting.
Following on from claims by a senior lawyer this afternoon that it is the BBC and NOT Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross that are to blame for what happened, Lesley, who has worked at the BBC for 23 years, has dramatically stepped down from her position. The senior official threatened just this afternoon that she would take drastic action if she felt any of her staff were made a "scapegoat" for the prank calls.
The ongoing investigation has clearly caused a huge rift at the BBC, with some staff referring to it as a "civil war". Despite Russell Brand saying he was "completely responsible" for the incident, an emergency meeting took place this afternoon where it is thought the fate of a number of employees would be decided. Lesley clearly decided to make a stand. We'll bring you her statement as soon as we have it.
Radio 2 exec quits!
