Forget presents, turkey and mince pies – when we were little, our Christmas day revolved around the special edition of Top Of The Pops. So we’re very excited that the BBC have decided to bring the show back for the festive season, despite previously denying it, the tinkers. It was announced on the Chris Moyles Show this morning that Fearne Cotton and Reggie Yates will host two special shows – a Christmas special and a New Year’s Eve special. The Christmas Day show will feature performances from some of 2008’s biggest musical stars and count down to the Christmas Number One, while the NYE edition will review the year in music. "With shows on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, Top Of The Pops has never been bigger,” says BBC One controller Jay Hunt. "The shows will form the centrepiece of a massive musical offering during the festive season that we hope viewers are really going to enjoy." Fearne says she can’t wait either. "I am beyond excited at the thought of a return to the mighty TOTP studios for these one-off shows,” she said this morning. "Reggie and I feel truly honoured to be able to introduce this year's Number One – both shows are going to be huge." So, who would be on your dream line-up for the two shows? If Take That and Girls Aloud don’t feature, we’ll throw a screamy tantrum even bigger than the one we threw in 1987 when we didn’t get a Fisher Price A La Carte kitchen for Christmas.
TOTP: the return!
