Two race scandals in one day? Gosh. Hot on the heels of Miley Cyrus’s dodgy gesture, another famous face is in trouble too. Carol Thatcher could be banned from the BBC after she referred to a tennis player as a “golliwog”. Carol, who won I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2005, made the remark during a private chat in the green room at The One Show, where she works as a roving reporter. She was talking to host Adrian Chiles and guest Jo Brand when she used the offensive term about an unnamed player. Apparently, Adrian and Jo were openly outraged and made a complaint to execs at the show. Carol’s spokeswoman says that it was an “off the cuff remark made in jest” and added that she’d since apologised verbally and in writing to the BBC. However, they’re not buying it. “Her apology seems to be that it was just a joke, but the BBC feels it is not acceptable under any circumstances to call someone a golliwog,” says a source. “Unless you don't think that is an acceptable joke, how can you be sorry? Until she apologises to the people who were offended her future is in question. There are people working on the show who don't feel they can work with her. Adrian was outraged by what he heard.” The BBC confirmed that they had “no plans to work with Carol on The One Show at the present time”, with a spokesman adding, “The BBC considers any language of a racist nature wholly unacceptable. We have raised the issue with the individual concerned and are discussing it as a matter of urgency.” Blimey – do you think her career is O.V.A.H or what? And what would her mother say?!
