Graham Norton has had his wrist slapped by BBC bosses after a throwaway remark he made about lesbians caused angry viewers to call in and complain. Graham has been accused of endorsing sexual stereotypes after he joked that an illustration of a heavy-set woman with short hair was a "strange lesbian". When guest Ruth Jones then asked him in shock what a lesbian looked like Graham simply giggled, and, pointing at the picture, replied, "That!". He later allowed that, "she could have gone to a very bad hairdresser". In a hasty statement, the BBC admitted they'd upheld the complaints, saying, "Although the initial references might have been inoffensive if considered on their own, they prompted an exchange with one of the programme’s guests which gave the references the appearance of perpetuating or reinforcing a potentially offensive stereotype. The programme team were reminded of the need to avoid any possibility of being seen to endorse offensive sexual stereotypes." Do YOU think Graham deserved to be reprimanded for his comments?
