The second set of couples pranced on stage for the first time on Strictly Come Dancing last night. The show had everything; fake tan, laughter, Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow.
So how did the second set of dancers do?
Jimi Mistry and Flavia Cacace
Jimi was really concentrating on his dancing, perhaps to distract himself from the awful shirt he was wearing. October is a little bit too early for silver frosting, save it for the final. His dancing was pretty good although he did do a sex face near the end. We didn’t need to see that.
Peter Shilton and Erin Boag
Peter has the biggest big hands in the world, fact. Even with his giant bear-paws he looked terrified that he might drop Erin at any moment. His version of floating across the dance floor was like an old man pretending to be a ghost. Sports people tend to do well at Strictly so he will probably improve.
Michelle Williams and Brendan Cole
If Peter had the biggest hands, Michelle had the best legs. The legs were a hit with the audience but less so with the judges. Michelle was very sweet in the face of all the criticism. Brendan Cole got the Simon Cowell award for having the trousers with the highest waist and seems unable to do his shirt up all the way. Not that we are complaining.
Gavin Henson and Katya Virshilas
The dance started off with something that looked like aggressive osteopathy and then went into a simple but well executed routine. Gavin seemed well matched with Katya, but for his next dance we would like Gavin to look less smug and wear fewer things.
Tina O'Brien and Jared Murillo
Tina and Jared made a seriously sweet couple. If they had danced for any longer we would have been at risk of developing diabetes. The 1950s look was great and made a nice chance from all the suits. Sadly the pinks of their costumes clashed, but Tina gets points for matching her lipstick to Jared’s shirt. Jared is a sweetheart; we want to see more of him please. Tina was mortified by the poor scores she got so expect her to try extra hard next time.
Ann Widdecombe and Anton Du Beck
Widders was far more floaty than we expected on the dance floor, although with the height difference between her and Anton it was like watching a toddler being swung around by an adult. Anton Du Beck normally has dangerously sexy chemistry with his dance partners so we are looking forward to that developing. We aren’t so sure about Ann’s PVC dress and Anton appears to be slowly turning into Rob Brydon.
Kara Tointon and Artem Chigvintsev
Kara was all giggly and charming and Artem has the best eyes in the competition so we expect their brilliant chemistry to only improve. Sadly their wardrobe was less impressive. Kara was a leopard dominatrix and Artem was wearing a leather waistcoat with a hood. Oh dear. Kara tripped on her awful costume but managed to recover and danced well, as did Artem with his lovely eyes. Swoon.
