Comic Relief’s second edition to the four-part dance contest on Saturday night showcased a lot of talent... in more ways than one (Steve Jones... mmm).
We were treated to some very entertaining (and in some cases very disturbing) performances from the likes of GMTV presenter Penny Smith, pop veteran Lulu, gothic-styled comedian Noel Fielding, comedian Andi Osho and Emmerdale actor James Thornton - who traded in his wellies for tap shoes alongside stand up comedian Charlie Baker.
Lee Mack, Jack Whitehall and Keith Lemon didn’t disappoint on the judging panel with their hilarious and incredibly cheeky comments throughout.
Penny kicked off the show with her rather sultry if not slightly awkward rendition of Britney Spears’s hit single Toxic. Keith Lemon described her look as ‘FAF’ or ‘Fit as Flip’ and we couldn’t agree more, who would’ve thought Penny could pull off the futuristic/air-hostess costume that barely covered her Britney?
The most entertaining performance came from Lulu (who, let’s not forget, is almost technically a pensioner) performing Soldier boy’s hit Crank. Yes she’s known as a pop singer and yes at times she looked like a 12 year old boy, but her performance was both incredible and hilarious, really throwing herself into those hip hop moves. In the words of Steve Jones himself, she made our ‘Pizzle Sizzle’.
Noel Fielding’s rendition of the Kate Bush classic Wuthering Heights had the audience and the judges in hysterics, even if it did seem as though Florence Welsh’s ugly sister had escaped from the basement. His dance moves were spot on and judge Jack didn’t seem to mind Noel’s new look claiming, "The next time I’m intimate with a lady I’ll shut my eyes and see your face, and what worries me more is that that won’t disappoint me". It’s no wonder his and Lulu’s performance sent them to the showdown with tap dancing duo James & Charlie (who offered the most talented rendition of the night). However it was Noel and James & Charlie who secured a place in the final, just weeks away.
The show was broken up with performances from the likes of Cee Lo Green and Mcfly who sang their latest single That’s The Truth looking very mature, muscular, tattooed ...muscular…. sorry, where were we? Oh yes..charity..
We’re very excited to see what next week brings..but what did you think?
