Eastenders bosses have been praised by Comic Relief for how they tackled their recent sexual exploitation storyline.
On Thursday night, viewers watched as Janine tried to convinced Whitney to leave her new boyfriend, after it became clear he’d been making her sleep with men for his own financial gain.
"We're absolutely delighted that EastEnders has decided to focus on this - it brings a very welcome awareness to the issue,” said Comic Relief.
“The fact that a soap is picking up this issue and broadcasting it to a very different kind of audience just means that it adds huge value.”
"If EastEnders profiling this issue within the soap does that, it will have achieved a fantastic thing."
Earlier on tonight the BBC followed up on last night’s episode by screening a ten-minute Comic Relief special, where Whitney was taken to a party by her boyfriend, but after arriving she soon discovered his motives were sinister.
When the penny finally dropped that he expected her to sleep with his pals, she struggled to escape his clutches and he locked her in a room.
She was then forced to break a window, before running into the street to flag down a passing car.
It was certainly a gripping ten minutes, don’t you agree?
