Ahh bless her! The very lovely – and very humble – Sheridan Smith took to the stage at the Theatre Royal in London yesterday to be awarded a very special trophy for her role in Legally Blonde The Musical. She won the Best Actress In A Musical gong – and received a huge round of applause as her name was announced.
Dressed in a gorgeous white frock and with her dad by her side, Sheridan’s first reaction was shock (which meant she accidentally ended up swearing in surprise), but then she came round and gave her dad a huge kiss and cuddle. He was after all, her date for the night – and had even done the red carpet walk and interviews with her earlier in the evening. Then she made her way up to the stage, opening her acceptance speech with, “Oh no I’m crying, I didn’t want to cry! Gwyneth Paltrow. And I think I just swore on camera, is it before the watershed? I’m so sorry!”
Ahh bless her, she’s a nice girl isn’t she? We particularly enjoyed it when she thanked the people responsible for casting “a chav to play an American rich girl”.
The actress has been performing at The Savoy for just over a year but recently left to play the role of Doris in Terence Rattigan’s Flare Path with Sienna Miller.
Joining Sheridan at the ceremony were Kara Tointon who looked stunning in red, Rupert Everett, Brian May, Sir Patrick Stewart and some other exciting theatre types. Another big winner last night was David Thaxton who won Best Actor for Passion at the Donmar Warehouse, while Legally Blonde The Musical scooped the Best (funnily enough) Musical award.
