Joe McElderry can add another reality talent show crown to his collection (well, it can sit next to his metaphorical X Factor winner’s crown) – he is the champion of this year’s Popstar To Operastar. Well done, Joe!
The 20-year-old former X Factor champ was a hot favourite to win all along, and managed to triumph over Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker in last night’s grand final. Joe won the audience vote after performing a stunning solo and a duet with this opera mentor Rolando Villazon. Both Cheryl and Joe also took part in a spine tingling group performance.
After the results were announced Joe turned to show host Myleene Klass and gave credit to runner up Cheryl, “Honestly, I've had an absolute blast with Cheryl, I love her to bits.” So it was left to Joe’s mentor Rolando to gush about Joe’s win, “I really hope, Joe, that you commit to this art form as I really think you can become an operastar in the years to come.”
Do you think Joe should give up on pop and focus on a career in opera?
