While we’re still waiting for Strictly Come Dancing to get going properly, over in the US they’re already kitting out stars in sequins, Lycra and neon satin as Dancing With The Stars began last night.
This year’s celebrity line up has proved to be controversial, with many uptight Yanks calling for the show to be boycotted because Cher’s transgender son Chaz Bono is one of the contestants. Well, the show went on despite the protests of a narrow-minded few, and Chaz danced his shocks off – in fact, he impressed the judges with his cha-cha so much that he earned a very respectable 17 points.
Proud mum Cher quickly took to Twitter to congratulate her son on his impressive performance, saying, "Wow! How great was my son? The greatest thing, greatest thing, greatest thing no matter what! He's a winner! I was so nervous."
Courteney and David
Chaz wasn’t the only celebrity performing on Dancing With The Stars with famous family lending support. David Arquette strapped on his dancing shoes and wascheered on by his estranged wife Courteney Cox and their daughter Coco. Courteney watched her sort-of ex-husband Viennese waltz his way to an impressive 18 points.
