We’ve all been thinking it for a bit, but now the rating prove it – this year Strictly Come Dancing is more popular than The X Factor! Simon Cowell will not be happy!
Halloween night proved to be a real horror for The X Factor - losing out in the rating to Strictly. Last night a peak of 11million people tuned into ITV1 to watch The X Factor, compared to 11.5million viewers who watched Strictly. It’s the first time in three years that the BBC’s celebrity dancing show has overtaken ITV’s singing talent show.
But why is Strictly more popular this year? Did people switch off last night because Kelly Rowland’s place on the judging panel was filled by Alexandra Burke? Are we all bored with the X Factor backstage bitching? Is the entire nation switching over to Strictly because of the very sexy Harry Judd?
Bruce Forsyth recently said that he enjoyed bantering with Simon Cowell over which Saturday night primetime show is better, "Simon Cowell came up to me last year [and] said, 'It's all banter, isn't it?' and I said, 'Of course it is’…He was meant to have said that Strictly is only for the old people and it should be put on in the afternoon so the viewers can watch it and then have a little rest afterwards before watching their show.” Now it looks like Sir Brucie and the rest of the Strictly team have the upper hand this year.
