There was no big party, there wasn’t even a glass of champers to mark the occasion – instead this morning, Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles quietly hosted their very last Daybreak breakfast show for ITV1, making a (not very emotional) goodbye as they left.
The pair have been dramatically axed after they failed to raise the show’s poor ratings. But they won’t be off our screens for too long. While Adrian heads off to present more football-related stuff, Christine will be taking over Holly Willoughby on Dancing On Ice in the New Year.
But as the presenters departed today, there were no tears or sad faces, instead the pair were all matter-of-factly as they ended their time on the famous purple sofa.
Adrian quipped, “As some of you will know, this is our last show. As a leaving present, I'm taking my Funny Animal Clips clipboard with me!” We guess you’d have to be a regular viewer to get that one!
Meanwhile, Christine took to Twitter to say thank you to her fans. She wrote, “Morning all, what lovely messages this morning for my last 3am wake up call xx”
Bleakes had already commented last week that she was looking forward to having a proper lie in. She commented, “'I won't miss the 3am starts, I'm going to be honest with you. Or going to bed early either - probably that even more than getting up! It will be nice to let my hair down a bit more and enjoy life more now that time schedules will be different and I don't have to get up at 3am midweek. So I might start going out more midweek and enjoy my evenings again.”
So she’s basically saying we need to be prepared for a load of pap pictures of party girl Christine out on the town - but we're sure that won't last long. Mainly because Ms B is hoping to become a parent soon, alongside fella Frank Lampard. The couple are said to be talking about babies and the future lately. Christine, you had better booze it up while you can then love - before all those dirty nappies come along!
