We all know how the story goes, big corporation fires popular, opinionated TV judge and replaces her with a younger popular, opinionated TV judge. What then happens when the younger TV judge moves on to pastures new? You bring back the original winning formula of course! These are the thoughts of many Strictly fans who are demanding that the Beeb ‘right the wrongs’ of the past and bring back TV favourite Arlene Phillips to replace defecting judge Alesha Dixon.
There was a right hoo-haa over the original firing of Arlene, who many deemed to be more qualified than glamorous newcomer Alesha, but now that Alesha will be joining the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel there is a seat opening with Arlene’s name on it.
The former Strictly judge is said to be flattered by the support she has seen from the public for her to re-join the show. She tweeted, “Gosh twitter followers and friends. I am overwhelmed by your incredible tweets campaigns and Facebook messages so much love and thanks.”
Other contenders for the judging position include It Takes Two (Strictly spin off show) regular Karen Hardy, former Strictly winners Kara Tointon and Jill Halfpenny, Dirty Dancing star Jennifer Grey and retired ballerina Darcey Bussell, who has featured as a guest judge on the show before.
