If you’re as crazy about US teen drama 90210 as we are, you’ll know that Matt Lanter, who plays Liam Court is one of the show’s resident hotties. We had a chat with him and here’s what he had to say…
What’s the best thing about being on 90210?
I would definitely say the best thing about being on the show is the great friends I’ve made. We’ve been doing the show for three years now and we have the best jobs in the world – I get to go to work and hang out with my friends basically.
Who’s your best friend on the show?
That’s pretty hard to say because we’re all pretty close. I see Michael Steger out of the show quite a lot, but we all meet up for dinners, so we see each other a lot.
You’ve been in a number of films and TV shows apart from 90210 – which one would you say has been your favourite?
There’s actually one that I’m just finishing filming now; I have one more shoot date this summer. It’s a movie called A Chance Of Rain. The script’s just really incredible, and the character went through so much, both physically and emotionally. I’m really excited to see how that movie turns out – I’m very anxious to see it. It should be coming out some time next year.
Who’s the most famous person you have on your phone?
The most famous to me has got to be my mum and dad – instead of the most famous, those are the numbers that matter the most.
If you could switch lives with anyone, who would it be?
I know a lot of people would say someone like the president or something, but I would hate that; that would be so difficult and there’d be too much pressure. I’ve travelled to Bora Bora and I think it’s just heaven down there. There are people that work down there as tour guides and I think I’d like to swap with one of them. I’d love to just hang out for the day, doing fishing tours in Bora Bora. It really is just beautiful down there.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Sometimes I can be really indecisive. And I think I analyse things too much.
What do you think is your best feature?
People tell me that my eyes are my best feature, so I’m going to go with that.
You were in the film Vampires Suck, which is a spoof of the Twilight films. How do you think Robert Pattinson feels about you taking the mickey out of his films?
I’ve never actually met Robert Pattinson but he seems like a pretty good guy – he seems like a guy that doesn’t take things too seriously so I think he’d probably have a laugh at it. Besides, in order for us to spoof his movie, you know it must have been a good movie, because imitation is the highest form of flattery.
What do you think of the Twilight films?
After being cast in Vampires Suck I had to watch the first two Twilight films A LOT. I like the Twilight films, but it kind of is what it is – you know you’re in for a kind of cheesy romance.
People are going crazy for the new Hunger Games film over here – have you seen it?
It’s massive over here as well. I actually read the script for it; I’d have loved to have been in it. It’s a pretty incredible film, I mean what a unique idea – on one side you have this romance but then you have a very gruesome, vicious side to it; almost like a Roman gladiator kind of feel to it. It’s very intense. Jennifer Lawrence is great as the main character as well.
Which celebrity have you secretly got the hots for?
I don’t know; there are just so many hot celebrities out there! Of course all the ladies on 90210 are pretty good looking. Also, I think Katy Perry’s kinda hot.
Who did you used to have a crush on when you were growing up?
When I was a teenager I had a crush on Jenny McCarthy and Carmen Electra because I used to watch them presenting Singled Out on MTV.
Who do you think is the funniest person in the world?
I love all the Will Ferrell movies. Pretty much every film he makes is like ‘jackpot’. I think Talladegah Nights is a fantastic film. I’m excited about Anchorman 2 coming out.
Do you spend a lot of time over here in the UK?
I’ve actually only been over to the UK once – I was doing a film but I was only there for about three days. But I’m coming over on April 30 because I’m doing a photo shoot. The thing I really like about the UK is the history of it all – I’m a bit of a history buff.
What would be your dream role?
I think being a Marvel superhero would be great. In particular, being Captain America would have been pretty cool. I can’t wait to see the new Marvel film, Avengers Assemble.
What would you have been if you weren’t an actor?
Before I was an actor I was actually working in professional baseball; not as a player, but I was working with the Atlanta Braves. I just really love baseball so I would have liked to have done something behind the scenes in baseball.
You worked with Kim Kardashian on Disaster Movie – what’s she like?
Kim’s really sweet. I didn’t know what to expect when I first met her because of everything you read in the tabloids. But she’s a really sweet girl and I enjoyed getting to know her.
Are you dating anyone at the moment?
Yes I am.
Is she famous?
Nope, you wouldn’t know her. We’ve been together a couple of years now – I met her in my hometown.
So what’s next for you?
We’re finished filming series four of 90210 and we don’t know if we’ve got a series five yet but we’re hoping. If we do a fifth series, we’ll start filming that in July, but beyond that I don’t know really. I’ve got two movies that are in post-production at the moment that will be on the film festival circuit soon – A Chance of Rain, which we talked about earlier, and also a movie called Liars All.
I’m also working on two animation shows; Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is very popular over here and worldwide too. And we just premiered the first series of Ultimate Spiderman - I do the voice for Harry Osborn and Flash Thompson, so I’m excited about that. Apart from that I’m not totally sure – I might get into a film this summer, but if I don’t that’s welcome because it might be nice to just take a little break.
