Inside the minds of the T4 presenters – part one with Jameela Jamil, Nick Grimshaw and Matt Edmondson

Inside the minds of the T4 presenters – part one with Jameela Jamil, Nick Grimshaw and Matt Edmondson

As T4 On The Beach approaches its 10th birthday on July 1, we got the goss from three of the T4 gang: Nick Grimshaw, Jameela Jamil and Matt Edmondson. And keep an eye out for the second instalment, in which we chat with Will Best and Georgie Okell. Coming soon!

What can we expect from this year’s T4 On The Beach?

Jameela Jamil: Ghosts of T4’s past.

Nick Grimshaw: We’re going to have loads of T4 presenters from yesteryear.

Matt Edmondson: They’ve not told us which ones yet. But I reckon Vernon Kay and June Sarpong definitely. I think Dermot could be tricky but I think he’ll get involved somehow – maybe a hologram.

Which ghosts of T4’s past would you really like to see?

N: I’d want to meet Sarpong – I’ve never met her.

M: Me too – I’d love to meet June Sarpong.

J: She just booked me for International Women’s Day; she asked me to do a speech. And the thing I was most nervous about was actually meeting June.

Which act from the T4 On The Beach line-up are you most looking forward to seeing?

N: I’m obsessed with Connor Maynard. I went to see him last week with Lily Allen. I’m officially a Mayniac.

J: I’m really excited to see Rizzle Kicks just to see how far they’ve come in the last year; last year they were doing this tiny little stage and this year they’re going to bring down the main stage.

M: I hope they don’t actually bring it down – that would be awful.

N: No I think they’re sticking around after to take it down.

M: I’m looking forward to seeing Labrinth because I missed his shows in London and everyone on my Twitter feed said that he was brilliant. I was annoyed that I didn’t get to see him, but I’m going to see him on a beach, which I think is actually a lot better.

J: We’re going to lock Matt in a portaloo during Labrinth’s performance.

M: Don’t you dare.

What’s been your favourite T4 On The Beach moment from the past few years?

M: It’s got to be the Jedward leg break. I like the fact that he just keeps going and the other one doesn’t realise it’s happened and almost bullies him and says ‘Come on, get involved, will ya?’

N: My favourite moment was when we played a game with Jameela; it was me, Jameela and Jason Derulo and it was called Catch Crabs Off Jameela. So she had to throw crabs and me and Jason had to catch them in our trousers.

J: I liked Peter Andre falling off stage – he did it the year before Jedward.

What’s been your best T4 moment in general?

M: Mine was when Hugh Jackman was on the show – he’s the nicest guy in the world, right. And we had this thing that was kind of like Robot Wars and one of the robots had bubble mixture in it; it was blowing bubbles. I kicked it over, he then went to kick it as well but slipped up in the bubble mixture; landed right on his coccyx – I thought I’d broken Wolverine’s back. But he was absolutely fine about it. But, in fairness it was after the Oprah zip wire incident. So once you’ve done that, slipping on bubbles is nothing.

J: When I got to meet Tom Hanks and I got him to sign my copy of Big. I don’t usually do that type of thing but it was Tom bloody Hanks. He’s the nicest guy in the world. In fact I should have taken adoption papers along for him to sign instead.

N: I really enjoyed doing drag with Nicki Minaj – I was Nicly Grimaj. I like anything where I get to rap.

Who’s the best current T4 presenter?

J: I’d say Will Best; he’s hilarious. I think he’s mastered the loveable idiot.

N: I’m going Georgie Okell.

M: Me too. Because she’s an athlete.

J: Her bottom is so tanned and she’s got a six-pack.

Who’s the most annoying out of you guys?

M: I’m happy if you all want to go with me.

N: You’re only annoying when you’re always Googling Zac Efron’s house.

M: I’d say Jameela’s the most annoying because she’s always getting into some sort of calamitous situation. [She’s currently got her foot in plaster from hitting her head on a ‘mind your head’ sign and falling down the stairs] It’s kind of annoying/brilliant soap opera. She always comes in and says, ‘You’ll never believe what’s happened this week.’ And you never can.

Which celeb have you got the hots for?

M: Mila Kunis

N: Yeah, she looks a bit dirty.

M: She’s one of those people that’s just so nice and adorable that when you meet her, you actually think you have a chance.

J: I like Jason Segel. I’m a sucker for a funnyman – I’d choose funny over fit any day.

N: I fancy Zac Efron and Rita Ora equally.

Who’s the celeb you’ve felt most nervous about interviewing?

J: Justin Bieber, just because of how tense the situation is. You walk in and there are 50 people around and everyone’s looking at you and you’re briefed on everything you can and can’t say – it’s almost like meeting the queen. And his fans are insane.

N: I got really nervous interviewing Beyonce, but as soon as I started she was just so lovely, I forgot I was nervous. I was really scared because I really like her and I wanted her to like me too. I’m obsessed with her.

M: Mine was Nicki Minaj because I didn’t know I was doing it until about ten minutes before. I was put in a taxi and had no idea where I was going. Ended up at a hotel, they gave me the questions but I needed to use the toilet. So did a number two in the hotel room toilet where I’m interviewing her while reading through the questions. There was a question about her new video, so I thought I better actually watch the video, so got it up on my phone. So I’m in the loo, reading, watching videos and using the toilet. I walk out, and Nicki Minaj is there waiting for me. Turns out she was really nice and the interview was great, but I couldn’t take my eyes off her cleavage.
