Hello you lot,
As you may know, we have had Rodrigo from BB10 in the office for the past couple of weeks helping out with stuff. Anyway, he wanted to write something about Christmas and what it means to him, so here goes...
Christmas Time By Rodrigo Lopes:
The year is nearly over, the shops are full and people are rushing around, it’s Christmas! What always comes to mind is lots of presents and food, but sometimes we don’t actually even stop to think what the meaning of Christmas is.
Maybe it’s because we are just too busy with all the shopping and decoration, but we need to have a think about that! I know that Christmas has its religious meaning, and I believe in that, but as religion is a very personal subject, I want to find the meaning of this celebration in our lives, apart from spending all our money buying lots of presents and filling ourselves with so much food that we cant even walk after the famous Christmas dinner.
Since I was a child, the tradition in my family has always been the same at Christmas; everyone sat around the table having the dinner made specially for that date and the kids waiting for Santa to bring their presents.
It’s impossible to think about a Christmas without Santa, isn’t it? I love that old man! I used to get scared of him when I was a child, though.
Then I moved to England and noticed that the tradition is the same, apart that in Brazil we celebrate the Christmas Evening on the 24th and we don’t have Boxing Day over there.
I love Christmas. Here in the UK I had the experience of going to a few places to see the Christmas lights being switched on and it was a new experience for me. It’s so nice to have people united at Christmas time, as it makes it so much more special. Have you ever imagined the world without this celebration? For me it’s impossible even to think!
Christmas is not just filled with positive things, its got its negative points as well. It’s not possible to go shopping without taking ages in the queue, and worrying about what to buy as presents, and people spend so much on this date.
Well, it’s a really nice celebration, but let's be honest, once a year is enough! It’s horrible when we don’t know what to buy to our secret friend, or when you don’t have enough money.
The Christmas celebration in my family is always the same since I was a child, everyone sits around the table and eats dinner that was specially made for Christmas Eve.
The tradition can slightly change from place to place, but what makes the celebration similar in all the places is the important of spending time with our family and people we love… This is the meaning of Christmas for me, but I hope Santa doesn’t think I’m refusing his presents!
Merry Christmas everyone,
Rodrigo.
