Not everyone’s a fan of the lovey-dovey hearts and flowers of Valentine's Day. If you’re left feeling nauseous by all the smoochy soppiness associated with what’s supposed to be the most romantic day of year, here’s a little something that should cheer you up: celebrities dishing the dirt on their most embarrassing dating disasters.
Olly Murs proves that when it comes to dating, planning is everything:
"The worst thing that happened to me on Valentines day was a few years ago in Essex - I'd arranged to meet a girl for a date at a restaurant (one of a chain) and we both went to different ones in town! I think we both thought we'd been stood up!"
Rapper Example explains why it’s never a good idea of be a big show-off:
“I went on a date to Nando’s and opted for Extra Hot. I had to grab a handful of ice-cubes to cool my lips and then one got stuck! I was so embarrassed and it really hurt – true story, it was when I was at Uni in Staines!”
Chris Fountain has also been struck by the curse of the show-off:
“It was my second date with my current girlfriend in a restaurant showing off in front of her when as I ordered, I somehow managed to knock a load of plates on the floor – some of which landed on my date. The whole restaurant stopped and turned to look at me and my very embarrassed/injured date!”
If you ever find yourself on a date with Rick Edwards, whatever you don’t see a chick flick:
“I was set up to go on a date with a friend of a friend. She was fairly attractive (good); we agreed to go to the cinema (good); she wanted to see Moulin Rouge (bad). I sat through this godawful film, silently fuming, whilst she was clearly enraptured. With about ten minutes to go I broke and started sighing loudly/muttering darkly/generally behaving badly. When we came out of the cinema she asked if I had not enjoyed it. I asked what had given her that idea. She suggested we go for a drink. I refused on the basis that I didn’t want to spend time with someone who genuinely thought Moulin Rouge was ‘brilliant’. We shared an uncomfortable ride down the tube escalator and then I never saw the girl again.”
