Last night we pulled ourselves away from the television for one whole evening and headed to the theatre to watch Our Boys – and we’re rather glad we did.
Not only was the audience buzzing with a load of showbiz types, but the play itself was really rather good.
The play itself – showing at the Duchess Theatre – tells the story of five squaddies recuperating from various injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Military Hospital, Woolwich, and the tensions that develop following the introduction of a ‘posh’ Potential Officer onto their ward.
Amongst the star-studded cast are Lawrence Fox (aka Mr Billie Piper) Arthur Darville (Rory in Doctor Who) and Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter series).
The play is at times properly laugh out loud funny, such as when the guys play a game of The Beer Hunter – we won’t spoil it.
It’s not all jokes and ‘banter’ though – there are some pretty dark moments during the play and one bit in particular made us do a big old gasp and cover our eyes.
Also enjoying watching the play last night was a double dose of Doctor Who in Matt Smith and David Tennant, Billie Piper (who laughed loudly at her hubby’s jokes a lot) and Mark Gattis.
We can't promise the audience will be as star-studded every night, but we can promise you won't leave the play disappointed.
