Nobody on Earth is not excited about the first Hobbit movie, due in December. Nobody. Nobody on Earth. Obviously there are different degrees of excitement – ranging from ‘mildly considering going to watch it on the second week of release’ to ‘nerdily re-reading The Silmarillion and learning Elvish’ – but basically everyone is psyched to see what Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and the rest of the cast do with the J. R. R. Tolkien-penned classic. So psyched that we're all watching this in-flight safety video while stood firmly on solid ground.
Nerd stuff
Yes. Quick question: did you know that the Hobbit setting, Middle Earth, has its own official airline? No. No you did not. But it does, and this week said official airline Air New Zealand released this Hobbit-infused in-flight safety video to promote that fact. It’s weird. But it also features dwarves! And Gollum! And a cameo from director Peter Jackson! And guess what: you can learn more about it above, or watch it in its full four-minute-and-27-second glory below.
Trailer
We haven’t the time seeing as we’re busy learning Elvish (“Peich! Luin peich!”) but if you have a spare moment you should also check out the trailer for the first Hobbit film, An Unexpected Journey, and basically start growing your foot-hair out in anticipation for the December release date.
