Here at heatworld, and with a little help from fashion bloggers Jennifer at Style East, Jennifer at The Style Crusader and Jill at Street Style London, we have come up with our top summer wardrobe staples for you to take on your hols.
Why bother buying a whole new holiday wardrobe when just a few items will instantly jazz up your entire look? From vintage midi skirts to hair scarves we have the looks that will transform you into this season’s style icon!
Visit the Brick Lane markets any weekend and you won't escape the summer trend that's taking east London's streets by storm - the midi skirt. As well as being the perfect transitional item (just add ankle boots and a denim jacket on chilly spring days), it'll see you right through the summer festival season. Traditionally thought of as an unflattering length, the midi has come into its own lately, thanks to the joint fashion juggernaut of the 'Mad Men' trend, and the return of the 70s to the style mainstream.
Just pick your look and go with it - whether that be a tailored silhouette a la Betty Draper, or the festival-perfect Woodstock look complete with floppy hat and big shades. Alternatively, if you dare to bare this season, wear your skirts with an Alexa-inspired rib grazer crop top (Styleeast's current go-to look). The best midis are vintage - try Beyond Retro in Cheshire Street, or online at Beyond Retro, for a huge selection. On the high street, Mango have skirts and dresses in authentic retro fabrics while Primark offer bargain pleated midis. Whatever your style, there's a midi for you this season!

Summer dressing is the absolute best. To me, it means no fuss simple dressing: open toed shoes, denim shorts, floaty dresses and hair tied up in scarves is what it's all about. My summer staples definitely include a pair of Levi 501 jeans cut into shorts, lots of American Apparel tri-blend t-shirts (they are the softest things around), and leather sandals. That three part combination is what I can be found in most days.
Pieces that will be glued to me this summer include bold chunky jewellery like the turquoise YSL arty ring, cat eye sunglasses (my current favourites are by Retro Super Future), and white converse.
Other key items include: TOMs navy striped shoes, high waist denim button front skirt, and One Language Half and Half tote bag.

WHITE: white, white, white. I'm really into white right now. Tees, shorts, but especially, floaty flirty white cotton frocks. Vagabond Van has a great one, the Apollonia for only £34. I love balancing out white girly lacy items with something kind of bloke-ish, nerdy, like a navy school blazer, or sandals and socks. Or loafers. White is the new black for me now, has been for a while, and is the base of my wardrobe. It just says 'summer' to me.
BRIGHTS: obviously everyone's jumping on the colour block bandwagon, but the secret is pairing brights with neutrals: tan, camel, or khaki, or crisp black and/or white. Khaki, for example, is gorgeous with hot pink and neon green. Bright yellow with white, or orange and tan, or purple. Pink and orange are a match made in heaven. So is purple and red.
FROCKS. Not to be confused with dresses. A few soft, light, whispy frocks.. throw over them an old raincoat or cardigan in case it gets chilly.. Sweet. Nerd it down with sneakers, loafers or brogues.
ANKLE SOCKS & SANDALS: it's this year's boots. The wackier the colour combination, the better. I'm totally obsessed at the moment with ankle socks. Either with flat gladiator type sandals - pretty and delicate - or high wedge, 70s type. I've got a pair with dark wooden platforms and black suede - almost 40s style - and they're great with tan bare legs and pretty little ankle socks.
This summer more than any is about having FUN. Big 70s sunglasses, bold accessories, bright nail varnish. Unexpected pops of colour: on lips, eyes, just keep it simple simple simple: pick one or two accent spots, like your flip flops and toe nails. Be fit, be kind, have a good attitude. A smile is, I still feel, my essential summer staple. That, and my swim goggles.
