That’s right, Dame Vivienne Westwood claims “People have never looked so ugly as they do today regarding their dress.” What a lovely sentiment to kick-start Fashion Week!
We'd always thought of the Dame as the eccentric, orange-haired nan we'd love to take us shopping. The 70 year-old designer is well known for her individual sense of style and has recently admitted that she believes that people today have “Never looked so ugly”.
According to the fashionista, people aged in their 70’s are the most switched on when it comes to style. Vivienne says,
“Everyone looks like clones and the only people you notice are my age…I don’t notice anybody unless they look great, and now and again they do, and they are usually 70.”
Dame Vivienne blames our nation’s habit of conforming for everybody wearing the same garms. The designer continued her rant, saying,
“We are so conformist, nobody is thinking. We are all sucking u stuff, we have been trained to be consumers and we are all consuming far too much…I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? But I’m talking about all this disposable crap.”
Vivienne launched her Red Label collection at this week’s London Fashion Week, and she claims that the line stands out against the more “disposable” fashion of today, where she believes buyers opt for quantity over quality.
Well so far we’ve seen a fair bit of variety on the catwalks, but what do you Heatworld Citizen’s think of the designer's statement?
