It's one of, if not the BIGGEST, nights in fashion. The annual Costume Institute Gala Benefit held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, America has become the number one night for stars to show off their fashion...some with more success than others....Amongst the glittering displays of fresh from the runway style there are always a few red carpet clangers and this year was a vintage for frock ups.
Florence Welch took to the carpet in what looked more than a little like a collection of lampshades. Christina Ricci dressed as an enormous present and Alexa Chung appeared to be auditioning for the S and M remake of The Sound of Music.
Mary Kate Olsen was more granny down the bingo than glamour down the red carpet and someone had to be really unkind to have told Kirsten Dunst it was fancy dress...
Outstanding nutty gown of the night had to go to Beyonce though who not only managed to flash her pants but also appeared to have got a bath matt stuck to the bottom of her frock. It was a closely won battle though as multi-tablecloth frocked Elizabeth Banks more than gave her a run for her money.
