Speculation surrounding the most talked about dress of the moment has been rife. We all wondered who would be the lucky designer to picked to design the dress that the whole world will be watching on Friday 29th?
For months names such as Victoria Beckham, Alexander McQueen and Bruce Oldfield have circulated amongst Royal wedding obsessed folk. According to reports, none of the above has been given the honour of designing the future queen of England’s wedding frock. The honour goes to a relatively unknown designer, Sophie Cranston.
Cranston is the head of design at Libélula, a favourite label of K-Middy's. Kate famously wore a velvet Libélula dress coat to a friend’s wedding in January this year. Now Middleton has reportedly commissioned the 34 year old designer to mock up a dress for her big day.
The palace chose to keep the dress designer’s identity a secret for as long as possible to protect her and her family from media scrutiny.
Cranston might not be as famous as Victoria Beckham but she is certainly talented. In 1999 Cranston won the Designer of the Year Award at London’s Graduate Fashion Week. She went on to work forAlexander McQueen and eventually helped set up the Temperley label with Alice Temperley. After a few years the designer decided to launch her own label, Libélula and has since gained a faithful fan club with the likes of Jerry Hall, Emma Watson and Kate Middleton wearing her designs.
If these reports are true we can expect to see Kate wearing a super flattering, feminine gown perfectly fit for a princess.
