We might have known this would happen. Hundreds of Eoghan Quigg fans in Northern Ireland have complained that they couldn’t vote on Saturday because mobile networks jammed. Yes, that old chestnut. Fans with O2 phones who tried to vote for Eggnog to win The X Factor said they got a “network busy” message. We’ve heard all this before about pretty much every reality/talent show going, but it’s the quotes from fans that have really made us laugh this time – the sheer drama of it all! “Throughout the night tearful kids could be seen holding their phones aloft, willing calls to connect,” said one fan. Ooh, nice evocative description. Another added, “I spent £60 upgrading my contract so that I could have unlimited calls and texts for the night. I tried almost 100 times, and nothing.” As much as we love The X Factor, if we had a spare £60 floating around, we’d buy shoes – wouldn’t you? And the drama doesn’t stop there – some members of Eoghan’s family were seen sobbing in toilets (blimey, those Quiggs sure shed a lot of tears, don’t they?) because they couldn’t get through. “I am just disgusted that we couldn’t vote for our own,” said one of the clan. An O2 spokesman confirmed that there was “congestion” but said all callers should have got through eventually. Hmm…
