Little Mix’s debut single not selling as well as Matt Cardle’s did last year

We’re sure the lovely Little Mix ladies are just excited to have a single out that looks like a dead cert for the Number One spot this weekend.

However, their brand new record label boss Simon Cowell might not be so pleased to note that while the girls’ cover version of Damien Rice’s Cannonball has sold an impressive 68,800 copies so far, the girls have sold half the amount that Matt Cardle had by this point last year. Matt eventually went on to sell 439,000 copies of When We Collide.

The girls also face some stiff competition for Christmas Number One from Military Wives choir. Unusually for an X Factor winners’ single Little Mix’s debut has been released a head of the Christmas chart. A spokesperson for William Hill has said that the X Factor group could struggle to claim the coveted Christmas top spot,

“After Little Mix were announced as the winners, we saw a rush of bets on them reaching the Christmas Number One spot but they remain quite a way behind Gareth Malone’s Military Wives Choir who are sensationally the favourites,” Rupert Adams told Unreality TV,”

Odds for the Christmas Number One Single are:

4/7 Military Wives Choir
13/8 Little Mix
8/1 Nirvana
2/1 Damien Rice
20/1 Arianna Morgan
33/1 The Smiths
33/1 The Cast Of The Only Way Is Essex
33/1 Stacey Solomon
33/1 The Wombles
33/1 Chas ‘n’ Dave ft Karl Pilkington
33/1 Amy Winehouse
33/1 Justin Bieber
33/1 Mariah Carey & Justin Bieber

Do you think Simon Cowell has actually done a nice thing by releasing Little Mix’s single early so Military Wives could be No.1? Stranger things have happened...
