Ella Henderson received mixed reviews from the judges last night. Her Halloween themed performance of Evanescence’s Bring Me To Life on The X Factor seemed to thrill Louis Walsh and of course her mentor Tulisa Contostavlos.

Although he did not particularly like the song choice, Gary Barlow agreed, “Ella well done on another excellent performance. When I hear people say ‘oh but she’s 16’ I think it’s incredibly disrespectful to you. You’re an adult, competing with adults and most weeks winning this competition every week. Your voice is incredible; it’s hard to fault you.”

On the other hand, Nicole Scherzinger reluctantly added, “This was my least favourite performance of yours and that’s hard for me to say…for me it was the wrong key all the way…it was anti-climactic.”

Louis came back and said he really enjoyed the performance and gave credit to Ella that she can sing alternative music types. He also told her the show is looking for a recording artist and that the 16-year-old has the recording voice.

Tulisa stuck up for her act by saying, “You make songs your own and that’s what makes you so special.”

Giving her side of her song choice, Ella said, “I did want to make it my own. I think when I took this song on I just wanted to do it justice. I just wanted to bring it somewhere else and kind of make it my own. So doing it in a different key I felt like I could open my soulful range a little bit more. But everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that.”

16 years old or not, we think Ella is pretty impressive!
