After last night's performance there is no doubt that 16-year-old Ella Henderson is a diamond-class act. Ella sang Minnie Riperton's classic Lovin' You and hit the F-sharp note, not once, but twice!
Once the performance started, and it became apparent what Ella was singing, it seemed that what everyone was waiting for was to hear her hit that infamous high note, which has previously seen many fail to even attempt. We’ve tried to sing it, it’s not easy!
Ella, whose mentor is Tulisa Contostavlos, has proven she is worthy of her position on stage as she wowed the judges and viewers from her first audition, straight through to the live shows.
Head judge Gary Barlow praised Ella for tackling such a challenging song, “What a risk you took, the F-sharp descending. You completely nailed it. It paid off, another great week for you.”
Nicole Scherzinger showed equal accreditation, “The difference between you and so many other artists is you are timeless and classic. You're a timeless goddess tonight.”
Although Louis Walsh attempted to stamp Ella as an Adele style-copycat he too could not fault Ella’s vocals, “It's so hard to believe you're only 16. You're a worldwide recording artist...I think your mentor has been looking at Adele and has been styling her that way.”
Before her performance Ella admitted she would find it hard to connect with the song because she has never been in love. With the depth and passion in her voice she definitely fooled us!
It was rumoured that young Ella was dating Union J's George Shelley but she insisted they were simply best friends.
